La strada romana "Via Militaris" fu costruita nel I secolo d.C. e attraversava la città. Nel maggio 2010, resti ben conservati della strada furono scoperti durante i lavori sul Corridoio 10. Una base militare ottomana operava a ovest di Dimitrovgrad prima dell'indipendenza completa delle nazioni balcaniche.
