De San Bernardinopas verbindt het Italiaanstalige Mesocco met het Duitstalige Splügen en ligt op de waterscheiding tussen het stroomgebied van de Po in het zuiden en van de Rijn in het noorden. De pashoogte ligt op 2.065 m en de paslengte bedraagt 33 km. De route bevat prachtige uitzichten over het typische landschap van Zwitserland: kleine bergmeren, watervallen en enorme sparrenbossen.
