Wetterscheidt ligt ten zuidwesten van Mertendorf bij de monding van de Neidschützer Bach in de Wethau.
Wetterscheidt maakte in de 17e eeuw deel uit van de verspreide bezittingen van de Schenken van Tautenburg in het keur-saksische ambt Weißenfels. Na de dood van Christian Schenk van Tautenburg maakte de plaats vanaf 1640/52 als exclave deel uit van het keur-saksische ambt Tautenburg. Met het Verdrag van Wenen kwam Wetterscheidt in 1815 bij de Pruisische Landkreis Naumburg in de provincie Saksen.
