Al meer dan tweehonderd jaar bouwen Catalanen castells, menselijke torens bestaande uit mannen, vrouwen en kinderen die op elkaars schouders staan en zo wel tot tien niveaus hoog komen. Die unieke traditie getuigt van uitmuntend teamwork. Tussen juni en oktober kan je bij elk stadsfeest castells bewonderen, maar voor een echt spektakel moet je in Tarragona zijn. Tussen 24 juni en 24 september wordt er namelijk bijna dagelijks een castells-show gehouden.
Ook wie de beste castellers ter wereld aan het werk wil zien, moet naar Tarragona trekken. Om de twee jaar wordt er immers de Human Tower Competition gehouden, een wedstrijd waar de beste castell-teams zich in een waar spektakel met elkaar meten.
