De Piazza Papa Giovanni XIII in Pistoia is vooral bekend voor het Ospedale del Ceppo.
Dit is een oud ziekenhuis in Pistoia, gesticht in de 13e eeuw.
Volgens de legende is de naam afgeleid van een boomstronk die op wonderbaarlijke wijze in de winter bloeide en die, volgens een verschijning van de Maagd Maria, de vrome echtelieden Antimo en Bendinella de plaats wees om het ziekenhuis te stichten. Een andere mogelijkheid is dat de naam zou zijn afgeleid van de holle "stronk" van de kastanje die werd gebruikt voor het verzamelen van offers.
Het was het stadsziekenhuis tot 21 juli 2013, toen het werd vervangen door het nieuwe San Jacopo-ziekenhuis, gelegen in het zuidelijke deel van de stad.
