La primera menció de les beguines a Malines data del 1209. Després de molts anys d'assentament fora de les muralles de la ciutat, van tornar al centre de la ciutat el 1578.
L'any 1629, la capella antigament erigida va ser substituïda per una església. Pieter Huyssens i Jacques Francart van dibuixar un exemple típic d' arquitectura barroca per a l' església del Beguinage (1629-1647) . El disseny combinava exemples italians amb un disseny regional que no trencava completament amb el passat. Després de 1640, Lucas Faydherbe, alumne de Rubens, podria haver estat responsable d'alguna de la decoració interior . Les influències italianes es noten a través d'un ritme d' arcades d'arc sostinguts per pilars corintis i una imponent cornisa . Les voltes de creueria fan referència a l'estil gòtic.
