El vessament de petroli de l'Amoco Cadiz va tenir lloc el 16 de març de 1978. El petrolier es va encallar a les roques de Portsall, a 3.1 milles de la costa de la Bretanya. Els vents de força 10 que bufaven a la zona van fer impossible l'ancoratge del vaixell, donant lloc al seu trencament i enfonsament abans de poder-ne recuperar els barrils de petroli. Es van alliberar al mar un total de 219797 tones de petroli cru lleuger i 4000 tones de fuel.
