Von Süd nach Nord schlängelt sich die Herk durch Wellen über die Naturschutzgebiete die Broekbeemd und die Grote Beemd. Diese Gebiete werden vom Limburgs Landschap vzw mit Hilfe der freiwilligen Helfer von ’t Bokje verwaltet. Die Namen der Gebiete verraten es bereits: es kann dort nass sein. 'Beemd' steht nämlich für 'eine Wiese in einem Bachtal'. Beide Gebiete beherbergen wunderschöne Frühlingsblüher und europäische Spitzen-Natur!
