Im Casino von Monte Carlo fiel am 18. August 1913 die Roulettekugel 26 Mal hintereinander auf schwarz, ein extrem seltener Vorfall. Viele Spieler verloren Millionen, weil sie in der Annahme, dass rot „nun kommen musste“, immer mehr auf rot setzten - ein klassisches Beispiel für den Gambler's Fallacy. Die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass dies bei einem europäischen Roulette (mit 37 Feldern) passiert, liegt bei etwa 1 zu 145 Millionen.
Die berühmte Monte Carlo Fallacy wurde nach diesem Vorfall benannt.
