Die Kirche der Barmherzigkeit wurde im 16. Jahrhundert erbaut, wahrscheinlich zwischen 1560 und 1562. Sie wurde mehrfach renoviert, bis sie ihre heutige Form annahm.
Die Hauptfassade im Florentiner Renaissancestil stammt aus dem Jahr 1562. An der Seitenfassade befindet sich über dem Portal eine Replik der primitiven Skulpturengruppe der Heimsuchung aus dem Jahr 1660.
Im Inneren stechen das monumentale vergoldete Altarbild von Marceliano de Araújo , das zwischen 1735 und 1740 entstand, und ein Gemälde des Schutzheiligen von José Lopes aus dem Jahr 1736 hervor.
