One of the largest emerald deposits in Europe is located in the Habach Valley near Bramberg. Searching for those emeralds by tourists is tolerated as long as you search with simple tools. The emeralds vary greatly in color, some dark green to light green with variations in blue/cyan colors. Often with many inclusions, rarely crystal clear. Emerald is member of the beryl family. It ranks among the traditional "big four" gems along with diamonds, rubies and sapphires. The word "emerald" is derived from the Ancient Greek: σμάραγδος (smáragdos; "green gem").
