Damburg was a land rent court acquired by the lords of Bocholt. The seat was a lord's farm, which was leased out by the lord and used by him a few days a year as a hunting pavilion. It has never served as a permanent residence of the lord. Damburg was possibly originally a redoubt for the inhabitants of the village, established in the fourth quarter of the 16th century and continued to fulfill this function later. The monumental gatehouse was built by Joanna Theresia Clara van Bocholt, lady of Bocholt, and her husband Count de Lannoy in 1715. At that time, it was a spacious, moated lord's farm; in this way, it is also depicted on the Ferraris map (1771-77), with the name Château d’Ambroug: the building is U-shaped, with the open side of the courtyard facing east, and two perpendicular wings on the courtyard side of the western wing. In the Atlas of Neighborhood Roads (1845), the farm is marked in grosso modo its current form: the main wing (northwest) has been extended to its current length, and the perpendicular extensions on the courtyard side have disappeared. The name is Maison du Village de Bocholt.
