The Hellmühler Fließ is a natural body of water located in the district of Barnim, in northeastern Brandenburg, Germany. In its west-to-east course, the river largely follows a system of canal lakes formed by the Ice Age, consisting of the Liepnitzsee, the Obersee and the Hellsee, which it drains successively towards the Biesenthal basin. Southwest of Biesenthal, the river flows into the Regesesee, the source of the Finow River. The total length of the Hellmühler Fließ from the mouth of the Liepnitzsee is about 7.5 kilometres.
The river was originally called Hellfließ. As far as is known, it was first mentioned in writing in 1564 with the inscription in the Hellen Flies. In 1745, the sheet of the Biesenthal measuring table indicated that the stream was Hellmühlsche... Stream. The water is named after the Hellmühle, which was mentioned in a document as early as 1347 under molendium dictum helle. Adolph Friedrich Riedel gave the 1347 document the title in the Codex diplomaticus Brandenburgensis: Margrave Ludwig appropriated the Helle-Mühle from the Bernau city council in order to dedicate an altar to it on 26 October 1347. The land register of Charles IV lists the mill in 1375 under the name of dy helle mole. The name is provided by the Brandenburg Book of Hell Names. The mill operated until the 1920s. From 1950, the building complex housed a country school dormitory, then a youth hostel. The building has been empty since 1989, but it is currently being restored and reused.
