This is the eleventh stage of the Via Tolonensis, also known in France as GR653, one of the four main routes from France to Santiago de Compostela. The route runs from Arles via Montpellier, Castres, and Toulouse to the Col de Somport where it connects to the Spanish caminos.
The stage from Lunas to Saint-Gervais-sur-Mare is 28 km long and is marked with the well-known red and white signs.
From Lunas to Bousquet d'Orb the route is flat, but after that, the road continually ascends to near 1000 meters. There are no facilities from Bousquet d'Orb to just before Saint-Gervais as well.
