Bad Boekelo was a natural salt bath outside Boekelo in the municipality of Enschede until 1985. It is now in use as a hotel.
The Royal Dutch Salt Industry was initially based in Boekelo. Salt had only a minor value and with more favorable water transport, the organization maintained a good competitive position. Therefore, the K.N.Z. already had a concession extension in 1936 when the section of the Twente Canal between Hengelo and Enschede was completed to drill for salt in the canal area of Oele and Twekkelo, and it was also built that year in Hengelo.
