No busques una conexión entre Zonnebeke y el sol; en 1072, el nombre del pueblo era Sinnebecche. Después de los devastadores bombardeos de la Primera Guerra Mundial, la iglesia de Nuestra Señora fue reconstruida y consagrada en 1924. La iglesia, con un techo de hormigón armado, es considerada la primera iglesia moderna en este país.
En 2004 se inauguró el Museo Memorial Passchendaele 1917, como sucesor del antiguo Museo Regional. Como visitante, serás guiado a través de las cinco batallas que se libraron alrededor de Ypres. Además de una extensa colección de fotografías, también se exhiben objetos históricos y puedes descender a un 'dug-out' británico o a una trinchera alemana.
