El apodo 'Denderhoutemse Turfboeren' proviene de mediados del siglo XIX. En los valles pantanosos de Wildebeek y Paardenbeek se extrajo turba. Los trozos de restos de plantas semidesechas (turba) se secaron. Los turberos vendieron esto después como combustible barato. Este camino corre cerca de la frontera de Ninove a Herlinckhove.
