Cuando la Segunda Guerra Mundial comenzó a asomarse en el horizonte, el ejército belga construyó un cinturón de búnkeres alrededor de la estratégica ciudad de Gante. En mayo de 1940, el invasor alemán fue detenido aquí durante tres días. Paneles informativos en seis lugares a lo largo del recorrido explican esta sangrienta batalla.
