El municipio de Hekelgem compró la empresa de procesamiento de madera "Boplaco", que se transformó en el centro administrativo municipal "Bellekouter". Este centro fue inaugurado oficialmente el 1 de diciembre de 1979.
En 1980, el nombre del municipio "Hekelgem" fue cambiado oficialmente a "Affligem". Desde entonces, se han realizado cambios importantes en el centro municipal, como la construcción del edificio de la policía con almacenes (1981), el polideportivo “Bellekouter” y el Centro Cultural “Sanderus” (1999). En el techo hay imágenes de Patrick Van Craenenbroeck: “Yo, tú, nosotros”.
