Desde el sendero GR-131 existe un desvío del camino hasta el monumento al Meridiano Cero.
Se trata de un sendero corto, de menos de 1,5 km, sin apenas desnivel, que atraviesa un suave barranco dominado por un paisaje de lava solidificada y lapilli. El lapilli tiene su origen en las erupciones explosivas y se produce a partir de la fragmentación de la lava que recubre las burbujas de gas originadas en el interior del volcán. Estas burbujas suben hacia el exterior y explotan por la diferencia de su presión interna con la del entorno.
Sin apenas dificultad ni pérdida alguna, la pista llega al monumento al Meridiano Cero situado junto al Roque Barbudo. Desde 1634 hasta 1884, fecha en la que el Meridiano Cero se fija en Greenwich, el conocido como Meridiano de El Hierro, situado en Orchilla, fue considerado el punto más occidental de Europa.
