La subida al Col de Joux Plane es una famosa ascensión en bicicleta desde Samoëns y un famoso descenso hacia Morzinne. Fue en esta subida donde Armstrong perdió varios minutos en el Tour del 2000. Estaba tan frustrado por esto que subió el Col de Joux Plane cada vez que tuvo la oportunidad. En su último Tour de Francia, incluso subió el Col durante su día libre.
