El museo está ubicado en un antiguo edificio que data del siglo XIV.
La exposición muestra una variedad de artefactos de origen helénico (de la cercana colonia de Himera) y romano , incluida una notable variedad de estatuas de mármol. La sección histórico-artística contiene algunas obras valiosas, entre ellas un políptico del siglo XV de Gaspare da Pesaro y una Anunciación sobre madera de la escuela flamenca .
Recientemente se han inaugurado una sección dedicada a la Termita del siglo XIX y dos salas con la obra del escultor local Filippo Sgarlata. El recorrido se completa con las colecciones mineralógicas y malacológicas y una capilla con frescos del siglo XV.
