Por aproximadamente 13.000 florines, en 1639 el pintor Rembrandt van Rijn se convirtió en propietario de un edificio en la Sint-Anthoniesbreestraat en Ámsterdam. La casa fue construida en 1606, en un nuevo vecindario, que más tarde se desarrollaría hasta convertirse en el barrio donde los judíos de Ámsterdam vivían juntos: la Anthoniesbreestraat se convirtió en Jodenbreestraat. Pero los problemas financieros obligaron al pintor a vender la casa años después.
