Al sur de Maastricht, entre Jeker y Mosa se eleva la Sint-Pietersberg. La extracción de la piedra de tiza creó un laberinto de pasajes subterráneos y tomó un buen bocado de la montaña. En los pasajes invernan miles de murciélagos.
En 1926, la Provincia de Limburgo otorgó una concesión a la Primera Industria de Cemento de los Países Bajos (ENCI) para la explotación de una cantera. La cal extraída aquí es la principal materia prima del cemento.
La cantera tiene aproximadamente 135 hectáreas. Muchos geólogos pueden deleitarse aquí. De hecho, se pueden encontrar fósiles del Cretácico, un período de hace 65 millones de años.
