La mairie sur le Geistmarkt a été construite en 1938/39 dans le style néogothique, détruite pendant la guerre et reconstruite selon l'ancien modèle. Dans sa salle du conseil se trouve la tapisserie d'Emmerich, une tapisserie faite de produits naturels de la région inférieure du Rhin, représentant l'industrie située à Emmerich. L'artiste emmerichois connu, Bernd Terhorst (décédé en 1986), a conçu cette tapisserie en 1940/41, et sa femme Elisabeth (décédée en 1956) a réalisé les travaux de tissage. Ce n'est qu'après 10 ans de production – avec une interruption due à la guerre – que cette pièce maîtresse a pu être remise à sa destination.
