Juste après la Première Guerre mondiale, une tentative a été faite par les Belges d'annexer la province néerlandaise du Limbourg à la Belgique. Cela s'est produit lors des négociations des "vainqueurs de la Première Guerre mondiale" au Quai d'Orsay en 1919. Ils souhaitent annexer à la fois la Flandre-Zélandaise et le Limbourg néerlandais. "Ces deux régions appartiennent historiquement, linguistiquement et culturellement à la Flandre", soutiennent-ils. C'était tout simplement une erreur historique du passé qu'il fallait rectifier, pensaient-ils du côté belge. Mais cette "célébration" ne s'est pas produite...
