Le NEMO Science Museum (ouvert en 1997) invite les visiteurs à participer à des expériences techniques. Très amusant pour prendre davantage conscience de la technique et de la nature. L'architecte Renzo Piano a conçu pour NEMO un bâtiment unique. Il a ignoré les conventions pour un bâtiment : murs verticaux et sols horizontaux, fenêtres et portes droites. Le bâtiment se situe du côté sud du tunnel de l'IJ. Piano a réalisé un design qui reflète la ligne descendante du tunnel dans la ligne montante de la proue et de la coque arrondies. La forme particulière est encore plus accentuée par le matériau distinctif dont il est revêtu : cuivre oxydé. Sur le dos du bâtiment se trouve une terrasse publique.
