Probabilmente la personalità buldernese più conosciuta è "Il folle Bomberg". Il suo vero nome era Kammerherr e Barone Gisbert Freiherr von Romberg. Nato nel 1839 e morto nel 1897 al Castello di Buldern, raggiunse una grande fama nella Münsterland per il suo stile di vita sregolato, le sue audaci bravate e le sue avventure amorose. Fu sepolto nella vecchia chiesa di Buldern, dove la sua tomba può ancora essere visitata oggi. Il nome "Il folle Bomberg" gli fu dato solo nel XX secolo attraverso il romanzo best seller omonimo di Josef Winckler (1881-1966) pubblicato nel 1924. Bomberg ottenne fama mondiale ed è accostato al "Barone di Münchhausen" e a "Till Eulenspiegel".
