Il sentiero Moorhennies deve il suo nome al racconto "Moorhennies" del 1903 scritto dal editore Neustädter Wilhelm Sicius. La storia si svolge tra la palude e il fiume Leine durante il periodo della Guerra dei Trent'anni (1618‐1648). Punto centrale della trama è il Moorkrug (Stazione 8 del sentiero Moorhennies, percorso sud).
