La capitale dell'Haut-Doubs nella regione della Franche-Comté è Pontarlier. Ha due principali patrimoni: le distillerie di assenzio e un museo dell'auto di 8000 m². Fino al 1915, Pontarlier era la capitale dell'assenzio, un liquore verde amaro a base della pianta Artemisia absinthium. Il liquore contiene circa il 75% di alcol. Era molto la bevanda preferita delle 'persone creative'. È noto che Vincent Van Gogh, Guy de Maupassant, Oscar Wilde ed Ernest Hemingway erano grandi consumatori di questo liquore. Divenne vietato quando lo svizzero Jean Lanfray uccise tutta la sua famiglia dopo aver consumato troppo vino e assenzio. Si assumeva che il tossico tujone presente nell'assenzio fosse la causa principale dell'omicidio. Ora puoi ottenere di nuovo assenzio, ma il tossico tujone è stato rimosso.
Il Musée Sbarro prende il nome da Franco Sbarro, un costruttore e designer automobilistico italiano che lavorava nei suoi Ateliers de Construction Automobile (ACA) a Grandson, in Svizzera, vicino al lago di Neuchâtel.
