Situata a Mortemart, annoverata tra i Borghi più belli di Francia e Monumento storico, la motta feudale si trova all'incrocio di antiche strade. Una delle motte di Mortemart, simbolo del potere della famiglia Drut, testimonia il primo feudalesimo intorno all'anno 1000. L'abate Drut, cavaliere e signore di Mortemart, sostenne il conte delle Marche contro il re di Francia durante l'assedio di Bellac nel 995. La vicina chiesa parrocchiale di Saint-Hilaire fu distrutta all'inizio del XIX secolo.
