De achthoekige vieringtoren van de kerk kijkt sedert meer dan 500 jaar neer op het rustige dorp.
De kerk heeft heel veel te verduren gehad tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog. De kerktoren is sedert 1936 een geklasseerd monument. De kerk van Middelburg heeft in grote trekken het plan en de vorm behouden waarin ze oorspronkelijk ontworpen en tussen 1452-1458 gebouwd is. Deze kerk telt nog vele kerkschatten.
