Het kasteel is de meest prominente bezienswaardigheid hier in de stad. Het eerste kasteel werd in de 11de eeuw gebouwd en in de 13de eeuw werd het versterkt toen Durbuy in het noorden van het graafschap Luxemburg kwam te liggen. In de 18de eeuw kwam het kasteel in handen van de adellijke familie d’Ursel. Zij lieten het verbouwen in 1731. Het kasteel kreeg zijn huidig uiterlijk na een restauratie in 1880. Het domein is nog steeds eigendom van de familie d’Ursel. Ondanks al die veranderingen, en de veranderingen in de stad, is de ligging van het kasteel altijd hetzelfde gebleven. Een rots in het midden van de vallei met daarop een groot kasteel in samenwerking met de sfeer die Durbuy heeft, kan nog steeds zeer veel mensen bekoren.
