Wolfhagen is een kleine stad met een historische vakwerkcentrum in de noordhessische Landkreis Kassel. Sinds 21 februari 2019 draagt het de bijnaam "Hans-Staden-Stadt".
Wolfhagen ligt in Noord-Hessen in het uiterste westen van natuurpark Habichtswald, oostelijk van het Lange Woud. Oostelijk van de stad bevindt zich de Ofenberg, daarachter rijst de Isthaberg op. In de richting van westzuidwest stijgt het terrein zachtjes naar de Stöckeberg en naar het zuiden naar de Graner Berg. De stad ligt aan de Mühlenwasser, een zijrivier van de Erpe, die de kernstad iets noordoostelijk passeert; in het Mühlenwasser stromen bij of in Wolfhagen de Duse- en Limeckebach.
