Deià staat bekend om zijn literaire en muzikale inwoners. Richard Branson heeft er een luxe woning. Mick Jagger, gitarist Mark Knopfler en de Europese muziekicoon Mike Oldfield traden er eind jaren tachtig regelmatig op, net als Caroline Corr.
Lang geleden was de Engelse dichter, romanschrijver en geleerde Robert Graves een van de eerste buitenlanders die zich in het dorp vestigde. Hij gebruikte het dorp als decor voor veel van zijn verhalen, waaronder de historische roman Hercules my Shipmate.
Anaïs Nin bezocht het dorp in de jaren twintig en schreef een kort verhaal dat zich afspeelt op het strand van het dorp. De Spaanse schrijfster Carmen Naranjo schreef onlangs een kort verhaal over Nin. Het dorp is ook de naamloze locatie van de Uruguayaanse roman "La nave de los locos" (Het schip der dwazen) van de schrijfster Cristina Peri Rossi. De Nicaraguaanse dichter en romanschrijfster Claribel Alegría woont tegenwoordig in Deià.
