In het jaar 1326 geeft Alfons XI van Castilië de plaats Mucientes "met zijn kasteel" aan zijn hoofd-majoor Alvar Núñez Osorio. Het document is de eerste geschreven vermelding van wat een bescheiden gebouw was, dat tot de 17e eeuw als residentieel paleis werd gebruikt door de opeenvolgende graven van Ribadavia, heren van Mucientes.
