In Rocamadour kun je het vermeende fragment van Durandal zien, het zwaard van Karel de Grote's paladijn Roland in de literaire cyclus die bekend staat als de Kwestie van Frankrijk. Volgens Ludovico Ariosto's Orlando Furioso was het ooit eigendom van Hector van Troje en werd het door Malagigi (Maugris) aan Roland gegeven. De naam komt waarschijnlijk van het Franse werkwoord "durer", "verduren". In The Song of Roland wordt gezegd dat het zwaard in zijn gouden gevest een tand van Saint Peter, bloed van Saint Basil, haar van Saint Denis en een stuk van de kleding van de Heilige Maagd Maria bevat.
