Caudry heeft een soortgelijk verhaal als de stad Gent in Belgiè. Ook hier werd een weefgetouw uit Engeland gestolen en was dit de start van een bloeiende textielindustrie gebaseerd op kant en tule. In 1913 waren hier 650 weefgetouwen en verschillende duizenden wevers actief. Caudry is samen met Calais de enigtse plaats waar nog kant gemaakt wordt.
