Pythagoras, wiskundige en filosoof is geboren in Pythagoreio 580 voor Christus. Je kunt het standbeeld van Pythagoras zien in de haven van Pythagoreio. Pythagoras is vooral bekend om de stelling van Pythagoras, die zijn naam draagt en hij wordt ook wel "de vader van de getallen" genoemd. Pythagoreio heette vroeger Tigani. De stad werd in 1955 omgedoopt ter ere van de in de stad geboren wiskundige en filosoof Pythagoras.
