De oudste geologische periode op aarde wordt het Precambrium genoemd. En gesteenten van die oudste periode vind je hier in Donegal maar ook in Connemara (Galway). Je kan je inbeelden dan gesteenten van die leeftijd al wat meegemaakt hebben. En dat is ook hier het geval. Ze werden verhit, verdrukt, samengeperst,... Zo een gesteente noemen geologen een gneiss (een type metamorf gesteente) gevormd onder hoge druk en temperatuur. En die vindt je hier ook.
