Paddepoel is een gebied ten noorden van de stad Groningen, globaal gelegen tussen het Reitdiep en de Paddepoelsterweg, met Wierumerschouw als de meest noordelijke punt. In dit gebied ligt ook de stadswijk Paddepoel. Paddepoel ligt behalve in de gemeente Groningen ook in de gemeente Het Hogeland.Het deel ten noorden van de Penningsdijk wordt de Hoge Paddepoel genoemd. Het deel ten zuiden hiervan, dat het dichtst bij de Hondsrug ligt wordt de Lage Paddepoel genoemd. In dit deel ligt de stadswijk Paddepoel. De Penningsdijk is grotendeels verdwenen en lag halverwege het huidige universiteitscomplex Zernike, waar nu het Zernikeplein ligt.
