De Houw is een buurtje in de gemeente Het Hogeland in de provincie Groningen. Het ligt halverwege Ulrum en Leens, ten zuiden van de N361 . De Houw ligt op een oude kwelderwal die zich in de vroege middeleeuwen heeft gevormd. Vanaf de 9e eeuw werden er op de kwelderwal wierden opgeworpen. Twee daarvan liggen bij De Houw; de bewoonde Grote Houw aan noord- en zuidoostzijde van de weg en de nu onbewoonde Kleine Houw aan zuidwestzijde van de weg. In de nabijheid vinden we de Houwsterwierden en de boerderij Westerhouw. Bij De Houw werd in 1839 een oude schandpaal als grenspaal tussen beide gemeenten geplaatst.
