El palau de Versalles és el gran palau dels reis de França, a la ciutat que li dona el nom, al departament d'Yvelines , a uns 20 km de París. Fou fet construir per Lluís XIII i fet ampliar per ordre de Lluís XIV. La més famosa de les estances és el Saló dels miralls. Lluís XIV va deixar París i va decidir construir Versalles, com una petita ciutat allunyada dels problemes. Tindria diverses etapes constructives, marcades per les amants de Lluís XIV.
