Kommunen ligger i regionen Bayerischer Untermain på den højre, her østlige side af Main. Den topografisk højeste punkt i kommunen ligger med 359 m over havets overflade ved Eichelsberg nordvest for Eichelsbach, den laveste ligger i Main på 112,5 m over havets overflade.
Navnet Kleinwallstadt består af de oldhøjtyske ord Walah for romere og stat for bolig. Forklaringen heraf er dermed bolig for romerne. De tidsmæssigt anvendte navnetilføjelser Klein, Wenig og Bischofs samt de latiniseringer minor og Episcopi skulle adskille det fra Großwallstadt. Tilføjelsen Bischofs refererer til biskoppens godsejerskab.
