Die Mardasson
Im Dezember 1944 wurde die Offensive von Rundstedts in Mardasson bei Bastogne von amerikanischen Truppen aufgehalten.
Der Preis waren enorm hohe Opferzahlen: 76.890 getötete, verwundete oder vermisste
Kämpfer – nicht gerechnet die zivilen Opfer.
Zur Erinnerung an den Baubeginn des Denkmals wurde am 4. Juli 1946 eine Gedenktafel enthüllt. Danach errichtete der Architekt Dedoyard ein Denkmal in der Form eines fünfzackigen Sterns.
Jeder Zacken hat eine Länge von 31 m und eine Höhe von 12 m. Eine Galerie überragt die Mitte des Sterns und lädt zu einem Rundgang ein. Eine mit religiösen Mosaiken geschmückte Krypta dient als Ort der Besinnung.
