Hagen ist eine kreisfreie Stadt in Nordrhein-Westfalen. Sie liegt am südöstlichen Rand des Ruhrgebiets und ist die größte Stadt in Südwestfalen. Hagen wird oft als „das Tor zum Sauerland“ bezeichnet.
Die Großstadt Hagen ist Mitglied im Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe sowie im Regionalverband Ruhr und liegt in der Metropolregion Rhein-Ruhr. Hagen ist der Sitz eines Amts-, Land- und Arbeitsgerichts sowie mehrerer überregional bedeutender Institute und Verwaltungsbehörden.
