Der Anstieg zum Col de Joux Plane ist ein berühmter Radfahranstieg von Samoëns und ein berühmter Abstieg nach Morzine. Bei diesem Anstieg verlor Armstrong mehrere Minuten bei der Tour 2000. Er war so frustriert darüber, dass er den Col de Joux Plane jedes Mal erklomm, wenn sich die Gelegenheit bot. In seiner letzten Tour de France erklomm er sogar den Col an seinem Ruhetag.
