Es liegt aufgrund des Wachstums von Sneek im Südosten dieser Stadt, an den Industriegebieten Houkesloot und It Ges. Der Dorfkern liegt nordöstlich der A7 und der Broeresloot und befindet sich am Westufer des Wassers Ges, das die Verbindung zur Houkesloot und dem Prinses Margrietkanaal bildet. Oppenhuizen bildet zusammen mit Uitwellingerga sowohl ein Zwillingsdorf als auch ein Doppel-Dorf. Die beiden Dörfer werden gemeinsam auch als Top und Twel oder Top & Twel bezeichnet. Das Zwillingsdorf hat mehrere Häfen, darunter verschiedene Yachthäfen.
