Das Schloss stammt ursprünglich aus dem dreizehnten Jahrhundert. Das erste Schloss wurde im sechzehnten Jahrhundert zerstört und 1594 wieder aufgebaut. 1634 fiel das damals unbewohnte Haus einer Bande von Abenteurern unter der Führung von Theodoor Cauwenberg, die die Gegend unsicher machten. Truppen aus Lüttich und Aachen belagerten daraufhin das Schloss und entwaffneten es. 1833 wurden die Überreste zu einem Plateau abgetragen, auf dem man das heutige Schloss baute. 1880 wurde das Schloss erweitert.
