Oeselgem is a village in the Belgian province of West Flanders and a part of the municipality of Dentergem. The village is located along the Leie River, near the border with East Flanders.
In 1259, the village was mentioned as Oulsenghien; in 1304 it is found as Oecelghem. The name is said by some to mean: "dwelling place where the Leie winds," where "oeselen" would be an old word for winding. However, according to others, the first part of the name refers to the proper name Oussel, Hutselin, or Husselin.
